News 9 & TV9 Mumbai channels launched

untitled1newchannels1Associated Broadcasting Company Ltd (ABCL), which operates news channels under the brand name TV9, has launched two city-centric news channels – TV9 Mumbai and News 9 in Mumbai and Bangalore respectively.

TV9 Mumbai and News 9 have been launched simultaneously on January 9, today at 9 am. The company is investing Rs 20 crore in the Hindi news and current affairs urban channel TV9 Mumbai and Rs 15 crore in the English news channel News 9.

KVN Murthy, vice-president, operations, ABCL, says, “Our company will follow up the launch of TV9 Mumbai with Bollywood news channel Lehrein. We are adding three channels in the present quarter to take our total number of channels to eight.”

Chandramohan Puppala has been roped in as channel head of TV9 Mumbai, which targets the big cities of Maharashtra with a primary focus on Mumbai. Murthy expects to cover 70 per cent of the Mumbai metropolitan distribution region within 2-3 days.

ABCL runs news channels like TV9, TV9 Karnataka, TV9 Gujarat, a Telugu channel called Sanskriti, Bengali channel Kolkata TV and a Malayalam channel India Vision.
